History of the Herd
On Saturday, the 19th of August 2006, families and individuals from Union, the surrounding communities, and as far away as New Hampshire journeyed to The Golden Raven Storytelling Circle located on 715 Sennebec Rd Union, Maine. To witness the first MOOSE Herd an outside Story telling Event.
They may have begun the journey because a friend told them that a herd of MOOSE was to be there that night. Members of the *Maine Organization Of Storytelling Enthusiasts with over a hundred years of storytelling talent were coming from all over Maine to entertain and enlighten their audience under the Union sky.
They may have begun the journey because they read an article in a newspaper or on the web that explained “The night will showcase such a diverse group of tellers that it would be a shame not to seize this opportunity for such a show.”
A poster may have started their journey with a description of what one might experience at a Story Telling Circle. “Sharing original, folk, historic, personal edgy tales, comedic and dramatic stories, the talented individuals may use their voice, mime, dance, along with movement and props to draw you into their world of reality, fantasy, or somewhere in between! For you see, there are as an endless supply of storytelling techniques, as there are performing Story Tellers. There are as many variations in this art form; we call Storytelling, as there are Stars that flicker in the sky above the flaming embers of the Golden Raven's fire.
More than 60 made that journey on a night that the weather was questionable. A family with young children spread out on a blanket picnic style, some sat on rustic log stumps provided by The Golden Raven, others brought lawn and camp chairs better suited for mature listening pleasure.
As the 730pm start time approached Roland Watier, host and creator of this lovely earth honoring Story space choose the oldest audience member of the audience as the Elder to offer tobacco to the fire. There was a smudge of fresh cedar offered to the six directions and our ancestors were invited to join us to keep our words true.
The opening ceremony also included introduction of the Moose herd and the welcoming ot their newest member Brianna (who coincidentally joined 40mins prior to her performance.)

MOOSE 3rd annual Pot luck get together
The Pot Luck Picinic is for members of
the *Maine Organization Of Storytelling Enthusiasts
and their families.
It is our hope that we can repeat and expand our potluck get together with the Maine herd of MOOSE. Last year we arrived early and had fellowship prior to the performance but it was mostly the performers.
We would like to have this become a gathering of MOOSE where it would resemble more of a family reunion than a pre-show picnic. We would like to encourage all our members to attend and stay to see the performance after the gathering. Arrive at the Circle early so you can take a hike or a short ride to the lake for a dip. Some of us will be visiting the town Gazebo to perform a Story Sampler at noon for the citizens of Union and then return for some games and visiting.
Please e-mail me if you plan on coming as a performer or to indulge in the festivities
Story length should be 10 minutes or less and if time we may tell more so have a backup tale ready.
